On behalf of Jewish Farm School, Eden Village Camp, the ADVA Network, UJA,

and myself, Joanna Kent Katz, I am pleased to announce the first ever

Intensive Social Justice Training for Jewish Educators.

This four-day training has been created for Jewish educators, trainers, organizers, healers, farmers, counselors, religious and community leaders and non-profit workers interested in beginning or deepening their leadership, understanding and capacity for integrating social justice into their life, their relationships and their work.

Included in this experience:

  • Envisioning and articulating the world we want to create, and finding our place within that vision.
  • Defining our spiritual intentions in our work. Discerning between Truth and reality. Investigating our inspiration and impetus, our strengths, our resources, and our sustenance in working towards social justice.
  • Studying texts linking Jewish teachings directly to current issues of social justice, illuminating the values in Judaism that inform our efforts toward societal change.
  • Deepening our understanding of the current system by exploring social identities including race, class, gender, ability, age, religion, nationality and sexuality. Investigating the process of socialization and perpetuation of oppression, our experience and our roles in that process. Uncovering and sharing ways that our lives have been shaped by these experiences.
  • Negotiating power and privilege in our selves, in our lives, in our relationships, and in our work in the world.
  • Theater of the Oppressed, writing, art and movement activities aimed at engaging our bodies and our minds in the exploration of power and liberation, with explanation for leading these activities with adults and youth.
  • Opportunities for large and small group dialogue exploring specific issues and identities.
  • Opportunities to help each other better understand racism, classism, and anti-Semitism as they manifest within and beyond the Jewish community.
  • Concrete tips for strengthening our dialogue and communication skills.
  • Practice noticing, identifying, naming, and interrupting oppression in ways that build trust and deepens relationships.
  • Yummy food from the farm at Eden Village.
  • Giving back to our host site and enacting our visions: Each day will include time working on the farm and/or helping with produce distribution, contributing to the local food system of the Hudson Valley.

Friends, please join us! Bring your brilliant selves, your brave souls, your enormous questions, your personal experiences, your hesitations, your strong opinions, your skills, your open minds, and your willing hearts.

    Hi,

This sounds great and I would love to participate. However, I am currently unemployed and money is a bit tight. Are you offering any scholarships?

    Thanks,
    Inbal
